JARANA explores traditional collective practices that have disappeared or are in danger of disappearing. It is a celebration that invites reflection on the importance of preserving traditional celebrations while also exploring new forms of collective expression in an increasingly changing and technological world.
Laia Santanach is a choreographer, dancer, and teacher from Barcelona. She has directed her own dance company, CIA Laia Santanach, since 2018. In 2016, she created her solo piece Ballant, which continues on tour. Since 2018, she has explored tradition and ritual in her works. This has led her to create a trilogy beginning with ÀER, followed by TRADERE, which premiered at the Mercat de les Flors, and finally, Jarana, which premiered at Teatros del Canal in 2024 and at the Mercat de les Flors in 2025. She is the recipient of several awards, including the Premi Delfí Colomé for ÀER, the Premi Dansacat for JARANA, and was nominated for the Max Awards for JARANA, among others. Her works have been presented both nationally and internationally. Concurrently, she co-directs the Menorca Dansa festival and teaches in the dance department at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
