Around 800 proposals from 65 countries participate in ACT call 2019

The 16th edition of ACT International Festival for Emerging Performing Artists, promises. Not only because of the thread this 2019 will be the risk, but also because we have received 778 proposals from different countries, from Georgia to South Africa going through China, which make up an overview of the most current international stage trends. This year the festival has done a qualitative leap, attaining presence in countries where it did not arrive before, and significantly increasing the number of proposals from previous years. The selection process will be very demanding, attending always, to quality and originality, and will end with the selection of a dozen of pieces that, finally, will participate in the contest.

Most of the participating companies keep being from Spain. Other countries with a strong presence in this call for proposals are Germany, Argentina, France and Italy. Besides, it is remarkable the increasing participation of Basque companies, with 26 proposals, double than the last edition.

The raising of dance proposals has been last years trend, which is maintained this year with 291 proposals of this gender. However, ACT seeks to attract performers with different escenic languages ​​and this goal has been achieved, with 116 pieces of textual Theater, 140 of performance and 81 of phisical theater or circus. The rest of the proposals have been calified as others, which means that they are mostly hybrids of several genders.

ACT International Festival for Emerging Performing Artists takes place this year from 28th of May to 1st of June in Guggenheim Bilbao Museum, Kafe Antzokia and Barakaldo Theater, with around 12 short pieces for contest and other three or four of exhibition. The program is completed with workshops and masterclasses. The 16th festival edition is shaping up as the essential evemt to openj the 2019 summer season of the international escene.
